Confronted by the loss of the Nicholas Building’s twin structure due to the Metro redevelopment, the pair felt it necessary to assist in its rebuilding, both emotionally and physically. Considering relations between self and other, where states collapse and collide on a visual plane, an attempt to repair irreconcilable loss, a Visible Absence.

Nick James Archer is a Melbourne based artist working in site relational sculpture and photographic practice. Nick graduated from the VCA in 2017. Nick is currently undergoing further study at the VCA completing an Honours Degree in Fine Arts. Recent solo exhibitions include; Remnant, Kings Ari 2018. SIMULTANEOUS, Mailbox Art Space, 2017. TRANSIENCE | CONSCIOUSNESS, George Paton Gallery, 2016. AND BEYOND?, Seventh Gallery. TRACE-MAKERS, George Paton Gallery, 2018. And was the recipient of the Fiona Myer Award, 2017, Evans Family Photography Award, 2017 and the NGV Art Prize, 2015.

Alex Walker is a practising visual artist, writer and curator from Melbourne, Australia. Alex is currently studying a Masters of Art Curatorship at the University of Melbourne and graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2016 where she completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours), receiving First Class Honours. She was selected as a finalist for the Exposure Photography Prize 2017 and had her second solo exhibition at Stockroom, Kyneton earlier this year. Alex will also exhibit Visible Absence, a collaboration with Nick James Archer at BLINDSIDE this August. She had her first solo exhibition, ‘New Light’ in 2013 at the St Francis Art Space and has also exhibited in group exhibitions at the Sally Walker Gallery, Geelong; Stockroom, Kyneton; Centre for Contemporary Photography, George Paton Gallery, Margaret Lawrence Gallery and Deakin Edge Screen at Federation Square. Alex was awarded the David Fell Photography Award in 2015 and Lowenstein’s Arts Management Award in 2016. Alex is currently Executive Assistant to the Head of Art, Kate Daw, at the Victorian College of the Arts; as well as Gallery Assistant at the Margaret Lawrence Gallery and Invigilator at Buxton Contemporary. Alex also works as a studio assistant to Dr David Sequeira.
